Love Is... A Warm Cup, Together

A warm cup is one of the smallest comforts there is, and holding one next to someone makes it last a little longer. Whether it's morning coffee at the kitchen counter, tea on a rooftop as the city lights come on, or two mugs under a sky full of stars, these are eight small moments of sharing a warm cup, all from my books Love Is in Small Things.

The drawings here are cropped, and the full pictures live in the books. Think of the words under each drawing as pages from the couple’s diary — sometimes a memory, sometimes something they said to each other.

Cold Today

Puuung illustration of a couple on stools at a small kitchen counter, drinking morning coffee and reading the newspaper

Side by side on stools at a small kitchen counter, one sips coffee while the other reads the morning paper.

“They said it would be really cold today. We should bundle up before we go out!”

Can’t Stop Smiling

Puuung illustration of a couple hugging in a cozy kitchen, each holding a warm mug, under shelves of colorful cups

Under shelves of colorful cups, she leans into him in the kitchen, both holding warm mugs. The cat lounges on the counter.

Whenever you came close, I couldn’t help but smile. I just felt so happy.

Cafe Chat

Across a teal table in a brick-walled cafe, she sips her tea while he leans in to tell a story.

“Wait, you’ve never told me that story before!” “Haven’t I? Then I’ll start from the beginning.”

Café Terrace

Under a red awning at an outdoor café, two cups of coffee steam on the table as the city carries on around them.

We sat outside with our coffee and watched the city go by.

By the Window

Puuung illustration of a couple sitting on the floor by a tall window with mugs, a cat curled up beside them

On the wooden floor by a tall window, his arm around her, two mugs and the cat beside them in the late light.

We sat by the window, said nothing, and just enjoyed the fading light together.

On a small rooftop terrace strung with lights, they share coffee at a round table as the sky turns pink over the roofs.

We sat on the terrace with warm coffee until the city lights came on.

7 P.M.

Shooting Star

Wrapped up on a balcony sofa with warm mugs, they look out over the town as a shooting star crosses the sky. The cat sleeps below.

“Did you see that? A shooting star!” “I already made a wish.” “What was it?” “It’s a secret.”

About this blog

Many of you have seen my drawings online, but not everyone knows they come from books. Over the past twelve years, I've shared so many of them on social media, and most now sleep far down the timeline. So I'm gathering them here by theme, each with a note on which book it's from. If you'd like to see the full pictures, or many more small moments like these, you'll find them in my books, Love Is in Small Things Vol.1, Vol.2 and Vol.3.

Why is their home different in every drawing?

A room full of bookshelves one day, a room by the sea the next. D and M don’t own dozens of houses. Each drawing is a small moment from someone’s everyday life that I caught and drew, so the place changes with every story. It may well be yours.

Why are the captions written like a diary?

The idea is that these moments belong to the two of them, not to me. So think of each caption as written by one of them, the way you might write down a small moment in your diary at the end of the day.
